How do I get my vehicle back if it’s been towed by the police department?

You must obtain a tow release form from the police department before going to the tow yard. A release may be obtained 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the lobby of the Absecon Police Department, located at 500 Mill Road, Absecon, NJ 08201.

You will be required to present your valid driver’s license, registration, and insurance card at the time of release. A vehicle will only be released to the registered owner or the owner’s assignee with a notarized letter.

An administrative fee of $25 is due at the time of release. Cash, personal check, or money order made payable to the Absecon Police Department will be accepted. For information on business hours of the tow yard, please call the number provided on the release form.

Please be advised that you are responsible for all applicable towing and storage charges. Storage fees are accrued on a daily basis.

Abandoning your vehicle is an offense under N.J.S.A. 39:4-56.6. Abandoned vehicle and their contents may be disposed of at public auction. Please keep in contact with this department and the respective tow company regarding your motor vehicle.
