Chief James Laughlin was born and raised in the City of Absecon and has dedicated his career to serving the community he calls home. He joined the Absecon Police Department in 2001 after previously serving with the Pleasantville Police Department.
Throughout his career, Chief Laughlin has played an important role in the growth and development of the department. He was instrumental in establishing Absecon’s Field Training Program, served as a member of the Firearms Unit, and became the first officer to hold the rank of Captain within the department.
Appointed Chief of Police in April 2020, Chief Laughlin has continued to focus on public safety, modernization, and community engagement. Under his leadership, the department has expanded staffing, incorporated new technology and capabilities such as the UAS (drone) Unit, and strengthened community partnerships by working with City leaders.
Chief Laughlin remains committed to providing professional police services and serving the residents of Absecon with respect, fairness, and integrity.
